    The Highland Mainline has been shut between Dunkeld and Pitlochry.

    Network Rail is concerned about high river levels beneath the Inver Viaduct which is putting extra pressure on the bridge.

    The river level has risen from 1.5m to 3.8m - the highest it has been since February 2021, when the line was also closed. The bridge had to be inspected by divers before it could reopen.

    Network Rail says it has been forced to shut the East Coast Mainline again in the Borders because flooding is still causing problems.

    The line had been closed because of issues at Grantshouse but it reopened for a short time.

    Train operators are warning passengers to expect delays and cancellations.

    BBC meteorologist Chris Fawkes says parts of Aberdeenshire have seen 74mm of rain falling in the past 24 hours.

    The rain is expected to ease on Friday night but the Met Office amber warning for parts of eastern Scotland has been extended until 21:00

    Rain flowing down from the hills means in east Scotland and northeast England, the situation may get worse before it improves.

  8. Small number of power cuts in Aberdeenshirepublished at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2022

    We are not so far seeing the large-scale power cuts that have often accompanied autumn storms in Scotland. However, engineers are working at several locations to keep power going or restore services.

    Aberdeenshire Council said it had reports of 11 power cuts in Inverurie and Kintore, Stonehaven, Portlethen and Hatton of Fintray among other locations. There were some reports of broadband also being down in some areas.

    Scottish and Southern Energy Networks say that there have been some areas of Laurencekirk in Aberdeenshire, external suffering outages with about 40 homes affected.

    It has engineers on site across large parts of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, incluing in Inverurie, Banchory and Fettercairn.

  10. Delays and cancellations hit ferry servicespublished at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2022

    Scotland’s ferry services are having to deal with the severe weather.

    Some Northlink services, external between Shetland and Orkney and Aberdeen have been cancelled with warnings that others are subject to review.

    CalMac, the nationalised service that covers many of Scotland’s island communities, said its sailings were subject to delays and cancellations.

    The focus of its services in on the west coast – which has been less affected by the weather - but it was reporting that services to the Western Isles , externaland the service that runs from Mallaig on to the small isles were subject to short-notice cancellations or delays. The service between Oban and Lochboisdale on South Uist has been cancelled because of strong winds.

    Angus is faring the worst of the heavy rain and Brechin has been hit by areas of floodwater.

    The BBC's Kris Miller took these photos of River Street in Brechin next to River South Esk.

    Network Rail says the line has now reopened between Dunbar and Reston, allowing cross-border services to resume.

    Earlier it had warned of flooding problems at Grantshouse which had forced the closure of the line.

    This is the view from the red footbridge at the junction of Ferry Road and West Granton Access.

    Fife continues to be affected by the heavy rain.

    Network Rail Scotland say the heavy rain is saturating the soil meaning it cannot absorb any more water, instead flowing across the ground.

    The rail company shared this picture, taken at Markinch, showing water flooding onto the railway line.

    Trains are still running here, but at 5mph.

    One of the main roads through Dunfermline is closed because of flooding.

    Traffic on Halbeath Road is being diverted through a supermarket car park to avoid the large pool of water that’s gathered across both carriageways.

    LNER says services are subject to severe delay and short-notice cancellations on Friday.

    Flooding between Dundee and Aberdeen is causing issues.

    They have also advised customers not to travel between Newcastle and Edinburgh due to weather disruption.

    Flooding has closed the A90 between Brechin and Stonehaven.

    The road is currently closed southbound at Stracathro due to standing water on the carriageway.

    Police are currently setting up diversion routes and traffic is stationary on the approach.
