The latest Scottish Parliament election poll for broadcaster STV, external suggests that Scottish Labour will fall to third place, behind the Scottish Conservatives.

Current polling north of the border gives first spot to the SNP. However, the surveys of Scotland's voters is less clear about who will form the single biggest opposition party.

Wednesday's Ipsos-MORI poll for STV was carried out between April 18 to 25 and involved interviews with 1,015 adults in Scotland.

What have other polls been showing?

    • BMG, external last week suggested Labour was ahead of the Conservatives - by five points on the constituency vote and four points on the list.
    • Survation, external poll - also last week - suggested the outcome was "too close to call". The company put Labour at 18% on the constituency vote and 17% on the list just a point ahead of the Conservatives on the constituency vote and a point behind on the list.
    • Panelbase, external poll that appeared in the Sunday Times put Labour one point ahead of the Conservatives.

Professor of politics at Strathclyde University, John Curtice, said in his online blog, external that the battle for second place "is evidently not resolved".

    Quote Message

If there is any tendency in these polls to overestimate Labour and underestimate the Conservatives’ electoral strength (as was the case in last year’s Britain wide polls), then Labour could indeed be in deep trouble."
