    New Conservative MSP Jeremy Balfour won through on the Lothian list.

    Mr Balbour became a solicitor before doing a Theology Degree in London. 

    He returned to Edinburgh in 1999 and worked for a charity lobbying the Scottish Parliament. Mr Balfour then became an assistant minister in a Baptist Church in the city.

    Ms Baillie earned 40.2% of the share of the vote, with second placed SNP candidate Gail Robertson gaining 39.9%.

    Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie took the Fife North East consituency off the SNP

    Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie took North East Fife from the SNP, after an extremely colourful campaign which led to an increase of over 15% in his share of the vote. 

    Mr Rennie hailed his party's haul of five seats as "a remarkable result".

    The Liberal Democrats finished fifth behind the Scottish Greens, who won six Holyrood seats.

    Scottish Green Party co-convener Patrick Harvie won his seat on the Glasgow list.

    The Scottish Greens pushed the Lib Dems into fifth place after their most successful election since 2003.

    The Greens picked up six seats in the new Scottish Parliament, with the Lib Dems one behind on five.

    Green party co-convener Patrick Harvie said it was clear his party had "gained huge momentum", particularly in Glasgow.

    Mr Harvie was elected in the city, while the party now has another five MSPs from the regional lists.

    He said he was "gutted" at missing out on a second seat in Glasgow.

    Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale said she was "heartbroken" after the Conservatives beat her party into second place.

    Labour had a disastrous night, taking 24 seats - down from 37.

    Ms Dugdale failed to win the Edinburgh Eastern seat but was elected on the Lothian regional list.

    Ruth Davidson's Scottish Conservatives finished in second place, behind the SNP but ahead of Labour

    Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson was the surprise winner in Edinburgh Central.

    Ms Davidson, who had previously been elected to Holyrood through the list, beat SNP candidate Alison Dickie by 610 votes.

    The Scottish Conservatives are now the second largest party at Holyrood following significant gains.

    After results from the regional lists were returned, the Tories ended up with 31 seats - 32 behind the SNP on 63.

    Scottish Labour won 24 seats, the Scottish Greens six and the Lib Dems five.
