    Holyrood might be given new powers when the UK leaves the European Union, the Scottish secretary has suggested.

    David Mundell told MPs in October that Brexit would "self-evidently" change the devolution settlement, and said powers would not be taken away from Holyrood.

    The MP said leaving the EU "should be seen as an opportunity for Scotland".

    SNP members pressed the Tory minister on what the effect of Brexit could be on Scotland's economy during Scottish Questions at Westminster.

    Orders have been passed in the House of Commons giving Holyrood control over income tax powers worth £12bn.

    Control over income tax rates and thresholds is being devolved under measures agreed in the Scotland Act.

    Both the UK and Scottish governments welcomed the "landmark" powers, which take effect from 2017/18.

    Philip Hammond will meet Nicola Sturgeon in Edinburgh later as he makes his first visit to Scotland since last week's Autumn Statement.

    It also follows the formal devolution of new income tax powers to the Scottish Parliament.

    Mr Hammond will also host a business round table in Edinburgh.

    The event will include representatives of the oil and gas industry, as well as financial services firms.

    The Chancellor said measures outlined in the Autumn Statement would add £800m to Scotland's capital budget over the period until 2020-21.
