  4. The number of people walking for recreation in Scotland is increasing - ministerpublished at 17:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    Public Health and Sport Minister Aileen Campbell says her part of Lanarkshire also has some great walks to take part in. 

    Ms Campbell says Paths for All were formed in 1996 with the late broadcaster Magnus Magnusson as the chair.

    The public health minister says walking has a number of health benefits as does being out in the open air.

    She says our appreciation of the seasons can be missed if we are just cooped up indoors. 

    Ms Campbell says Paths for All also have walking football groups, encouraging those who take part to enjoy the social aspects of the game.

    She says the number of people walking for recreation in Scotland is increasing.

    The SNP MSP praises the charity's values and work supporting communities in Scotland. 

    Paths for All is a Scottish charity that champtions walking for everyone, everyday, everywhere, external.

    Ms Johnstone says we only get one body for life and we need to nourish it and move it.

    Mr MacGregor congratulates the staff and students at the Coatbridge campus of New College Lanarkshire , externalon the recent unveiling of their Walk This Way walking routes at Dunbeth Park in Coatbridge.

    This was supported by Paths for All.

    The SNP MSP calls on the Scottish government to consider a Year of Walking to encourage people to do more walking in the interests of fitness and health.

    Mr Allan says migrants who come to Scotland to enrich our culture and contribute to our economy have been recognised during the debate.

    He says there has been so much anti-immigration rhetoric and he is glad to end the year on this positive note.

    The international development minister says the government is proud of those who come to Scotland and make the country their home.

    He says Scotland's population is expected to grow by 7% between 2014 and 2039.

    Mr Allan says stopping immigration completely would mean it would only grow by 3%.

    International Development and Europe Minister Alasdair Allan says the Scottish government has been pleased to assist in Yemen.

    This follows an intervention from Labour MSP Pauline McNeil who wanted to put on the record the Scottish government had donated £250,00.
