Professor Sir David Edward, former Judge of the European Court of Justice and member of the Standing Council on Europe says the council has no political position.

Sir David says the views of the council naturally differ on some options in Scotland's Place in Europe.

He says the council members agree on the need to "limit the damage that Brexit will do to Scotland".

Standing Council on Europe chair Professor Anton Muscatelli says there is complete unanimity in the disappointment about the prime minister's announcement that she would take the UK out of the single market.

He says membership of the single market is key to the future of Scotland and the UK.
