    Gerald McLaughlin, chief executive, NHS Health Scotland says there is a long term strategy to make Scotland a non-smoking country.

    Mr McLaughlin says NHS Health Scotland led a marketing exercise to stop smoking in or around NHS grounds and there has been a significant reduction in that.

    Committee convener Neil Findlay says this is about delivering improved public health in Scotland. 

    Mr Findlay asks what tangible work of value there is.

    He says "a room could be filled with reports" and asks what tangible difference there is. 

    Gerald McLaughlin, chief executive, NHS Health Scotland says the organisation is working with a range of partners to make policy and resource allocation decisions. 

    Mr McLaughlin says NHS Health Scotland has provided briefings with recommendations.

    NHS Health Scotland chief executive Gerald McLaughlin says NHS Health Scotland is the national health improvement agency. 

    Mr McLaughlin says in 2012 it developed a five year strategy to focus on health inequalities.

    He says there is now a second five year strategy, the NHS Health Scotland 1017/18 delivery plan. sticking to that theme.
