    Proposals for ship-to-ship oil transfers in the Moray Firth were debated in the Scottish Parliament in March

    Port of Cromarty Firth has proposed the transfers of oil at sea. It has said the work could be done safely and without risk to the environment.

    However, campaign group Cromarty Rising has gathered more than 100,000 names on a petition opposing the plans.

    Green MSP John Finnie secured the debate in the parliament next Wednesday.

    The petition calls on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish government to ensure that environmental legislation in Scotland is sufficient to prevent ship-to-ship transfers of crude oil in environmentally sensitive locations, such as the Inner Moray Firth, and to enhance the accountability of trust port boards to their stakeholders.

    Communities have come together to celebrate the life of the murdered MP Jo Cox.

    The 41-year-old was shot and stabbed in Birstall, in her Yorkshire constituency of Batley and Spen, on 16 June 2016.

    To mark the first anniversary of her death her family and friends have urged people to hold events that celebrate her life.

    The Great Get Together, involving picnics, street parties and concerts, runs across the weekend.

    Organised by the Jo Cox Foundation, it aims to reinforce the message in Mrs Cox's maiden speech in the House of Commons that "we have more in common than that which divides us".

    Scotland's "dramatic open views and vistas" could be threatened by plans to increase woodland cover, according to mountaineers and gamekeepers.

    Mountaineering Scotland and the Scottish Gamekeepers Association have jointly written to Scotland's environment secretary.

    The Scottish government wants woodland cover to go from 17% to 25% by 2050.

    It said there would be "appropriate consideration of Scotland's distinctive upland landscapes."
