  12. 'This parliamentary term is a new possibility to deliver change'published at 15:59 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    Willie RennieImage source, bbc

Mr Rennie says this parliamentary term is a new possibility to deliver change and he says his party have put forward constructive proposals.

He says the big question is whether the SNP will seize the opportunity.

  13. Calls for the new chairman of the Scottish Police Authority to be appointed by MSPspublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

    Police ScotlandImage source, bbc

Mr Rennie calls for the new chairman of the Scottish Police Authority to be appointed by the Scottish Parliament.

The four main opposition parties have united in a call for MSPs to be allowed to choose the next chairperson of the Scottish Police Authority (SPA).

Andrew Flanagan resigned from the role in June after being heavily criticised by two Holyrood committees.

The Scottish government is due to interview candidates to replace Mr Flanagan next month.

But opposition parties want his successor to be appointed by the Scottish Parliament instead.

In a joint letter to the justice secretary, they argued that the SPA - which is supposed to hold Police Scotland to account - needs to have "greater transparency and public accountability".

The Police and Fire Reform Act, which created the single national police and fire services, gives responsibility for appointing the chair of the SPA to the Scottish government.

  14. Rennie says funds must follow to make the Mental Health Strategypublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

Mr Rennie highlights issues in the police, NHS, education and renewables.

The Scottish Lib Dem leader says there needs to be a new McCrone agreement for teachers to reverse the decline in the international education standing.

He calls for a penny on income tax to help address the issues in education.

Mr Rennie says funds must follow to make the Mental Health Strategy.

  15. Rennie welcomes some proposals in otherwise 'dull statement'published at 15:43 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie also welcomes the opening of the Queensferry Crossing.

Mr Rennie says people have had their fill of elections and are fed up with the endless focus on independence.

He says the first minister recognised that in June.

Mr Rennie welcomes the announcement of the presumption against prison sentences less than 12 months, the raising of the age of criminal responsibility and the introduction of Frank's law.

However, he calls this an otherwise "dull statement".

Mr Rennie says the fire in the SNP MSPs has also gone out and says it took them 14 minutes to applaud.

This leads to a slow hand clap from the SNP, including the first minister.

  16. Harvie speaks out against Teach Firstpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

Mr Harvie speaks out against the Teach First project and says he will continue to challenge the government on this issue.

He calls for a £5 top-up for child benefit to help tackle child poverty.

The Scottish Green Party co-convener calls for support for his colleague Mark Ruskell's proposal for 20mph zones.

He also again calls for progressive taxation and says it is way past time for a discussion on this.

Mr Harvie also says he would like to see more done in the area of animal welfare.

  18. Harvie says the argument for a citizen's income has never been strongerpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

Scottish Green Party co-convener Patrick Harvie welcomes the deposit return scheme.

Mr Harvie also welcomes the commitment to phase out petrol and diesel cars.

He says he had hoped for an advance decision on fracking and calls again for commitment for a full ban.

Mr Harvie welcomes the signal of interest in a citizen's income, saying his party has been at the forefront of pushing for these schemes.

He says the argument for a citizen's income has never been stronger.

  19. Best wishes for Kezia Dugdalepublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 5 September 2017

Scottish Green Party co-convener Patrick Harvie wishes Kezia Dugdale well in the future.

Ms Dugdale resigned as leader of Scottish Labour, saying it is time to "pass on the baton" to someone else.

The Lothians MSP has previously criticised UK leader Jeremy Corbyn, and has faced criticism from left-wing members of her own party.

She insisted she was leaving the party in a much better state than she had found it.

But she said a new leader was needed with "fresh energy, drive and a new mandate".
