  19. ScotRail performance raised by Labour MSPpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 27 September 2018

    colin smythImage source, bbc

Labour MSP Colin Smyth says ScotRail's performance has deteriorated so badly they risked being in breach of their contract.

He claimed the transport secretary has been "fiddling" the figures to ensure this was not the case.

Ms Sturgeon says the Railway Act allows ministers to exercise discretion when issues arise, such as the hot weather at the start of summer.

"We are heavily investing to improve our railways, to make sure there is more capacity on our railways, more modern trains on our railways," she says,

More than half of cancellations and delays are due to issues which are the responsibility of Network Rail, she argues - pointing out that the Scottish government currently has no powers over it.
