Image source, Getty ImagesChlorine-washed chicken and hormone-injected beef should be part of a UK/US free trade deal, a farming union said.
Roger Johnson, president of America's National Farmers Union, said US food was "perfectly safe" and there had been a lot of "fear-mongering".
The politically-influential union represents more than 200,000 US farms.
Mr Johnson also told the BBC that a free trade deal would open up the huge US market to British products in a boost for UK farmers.
Image source, bbcPublic Health Minister Joe Fitzpatrick says there must be a sound legal basis to the regulatory system of food safety if there is a no-deal Brexit.
SNP MSP Keith Brown again says it is pointless to change the deadlines for secondary legislation, if the committee does not get the detail required.
He asks about the possibility of policy divergence between the UK and Scottish governments in the result of a no-deal Brexit, for example in terms of chlorinated chicken.
Mr Fitzpatrick agrees the whole process of having to take evidence before the final draft is "highly unsatisfactory".
He states that if the UK government goes down the route of wanting to import chlorinated chicken, these orders would allow Scotland to diverge from that.

SNP MSP Keith Brown says it is far less than satisfactory to make these regulations the law of the land without seeing the detail.
Mr Brown asks for reassurance that this will not happen again and final versions of regulations will be seen.
Committee convener Lewis Macdonald confirms the committee will write to the UK government to seek confirmation that future secondary legislation will be delivered in their final version.

Then it will hear from stakeholders about the Human Tissue (Authorisation) (Scotland) Bill, external, which is seeking to move Scotland to an opt-out system of organ donation.
Among the witnesses is Gillian Hollis, who received a lung transplant in 2004 after being diagnosed with a rare form of lung disease.
