    Police in Hawick are investigating following a break-in to a business premises in the early hours of this morning.

    The break-in happened around 2.30am at Johnston's of Elgin Mill Shop on Mansfield Road, and 11 men's Barbour jackets worth approximately £2,000 were stolen.

    Six players with Borders teams are in the Scotland Under 20 side which will take on their French counterparts in the opening game of the Under 20s Six Nations on Saturday.

    In the starting XV to face the champions of last season are Ruaridh Howarth of Gala, Ross Graham of Hawick and Melrose's Lewis Carmichael. Melrose pair Neil Irvine-Hess and Tom Galbraith are on the bench along with Gala's Gary Robertson.

    A man has been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police in Galashiels made a recovery of Class A drugs yesterday.

    A quantity of cocaine with a potential street value of £4,000 was recovered from a vehicle seized from an address in St Andrews Street.

    Winds remain light and temperatures will dip to around minus 1 Celsius in the coldest spots, although in town it will likely hold above zero.

    Police in Newton Stewart are hunting a man and woman who stole six bottles of vodka from the town's Co-operative store at about 15:00 on Wednesday.

    The man is 6ft 2in, of Eastern European appearance, with dark hair. He was in his late 20s or early 30s and he was wearing blue jeans and a grey hooded top.

    The woman is also of East European appearance and about 5ft 8in. She was wearing blue jeans and a green parka-style jacket.

    Budget plans by Dumfries and Galloway Council's Labour administration to cut more than £8m from spending in the next financial year have been agreed.

    Preparations are well under way at Dumfries Ice Bowl as it welcomes the Trophy D'Ecosse Synchronised Skating Championships this weekend.

    The council-run facility is hosting the event for the fourth consecutive year, and work is taking place this week to transform the rink into an international skating theatre for the weekend.

    The event runs from Friday to Sunday.

    Police are investigating a break-in to a silver Mitsubishi Warrior pick-up, which was targeted while it was parked in Wigtown.

    A magnetic mounted laser receiver and the Fukedad laser level, worth a total of £1,400, were stolen overnight on Wednesday/Thursday.

    Police are appealing for help in tracing a 16-year-old missing from Lockerbie.

    Jack Howat was last seen in the town at around 2pm yesterday.

    He was wearing a blue Adidas tracksuit top, black Adidas bottoms and Nike trainers.

    Police believe he may be in the Dumfries area.

    The price of rural land in Scotland has risen sharply but still lags well behind the UK average, according to a report.

    The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) estimated the average price per acre in Scotland was £4,375 last year.

    The figure was 17% up on 2013 but 47% below the UK figure for 2014.

    The Rics survey also found that the price of pasture land was at least 40% cheaper than any other part of the UK.

    Former Queen of the South boss Allan Johnston will leave his post as Kilmarnock manager in the summer.

    The 41-year-old left Palmerston in 2013 to join the Ayrshire side.

    He said the sale of Robbie Muirhead to Dundee United on Monday was a factor behind his decision.

    "I never found out Robbie was away until five past 12 [on deadline day]. Stuff like that, it is not the way things are done," he said.
