    Scotland's new football season will start on 25 July with the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup, with the Premiership beginning the following weekend.

    The top-flight's opening round of fixtures will coincide with the first round of the League Cup.

    Scottish Championship, League One and League Two clubs will begin their league campaigns on 8 August.

    Showers will die away, leaving a lovely evening across the region. It will be a dry night with long clear spells and a widespread frost inland.

    Temperatures will fall to around freezing in the towns, and down to -2C in the countryside. There is a possible risk of icy patches by dawn.

    Two women are trapped in a car which has been involved in a road accident on the A75, according to police.

    Police and paramedics are at the scene of the collision, which also involved a lorry, east of Castle Kennedy.

    A spokesman for Police Scotland said the women's injuries are not thought to be serious.

    The road is currently closed in both directions but officers hope to reopen it as soon as possible.

    The decision applies to 3,200 people who worked in stores with fewer than 20 employees and also affects 1,200 ex-workers at clothing chain Ethel Austin.

    But John and Janet Brennan have spent the last seven years and hundreds of thousands of pounds rebuilding Barholm Castle, near Gatehouse on Fleet.

    Queen of the South have confirmed they will charge season ticket holders for any home Premiership play-off matches.

    Rangers have already said they intend to let their season ticket holders into their games for free.

    If Motherwell are involved, they have indicated a willingness not to charge while Hibs are also reported to be considering the move.

    However, the Dumfries club said it had "always expected" season ticket holders would pay, as they did last year.
