    Tributes have been paid to the Duns woman who died after a collision involving her car and a tractor and trailer near Chirnside last week., external

    Caroline Taylor-Smith, aged 18, suffered serious injuries when her Fiat Panda collided with the tractor and trailer on the A6105 near Chirnside, at 1.45pm on Monday, June 1.

    She was attended by a trauma team and airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died from her injuries on Wednesday evening (June 3).

    A dry, warm and sunny evening with temperatures inland tying into the high teens, even after 6pm.

    Always cooler around the coast but still pleasant with light winds. This evening and overnight, it stays dry with clear spells. Lows around 7 to 9 celsius in town.

    Annan Athletic chairman Henry McClelland has given his views of a potential switch to summer football.

    He said the move could benefit the national side.

    "We need to align a fixture calendar more with the international calendar," he said.

    "That is maybe being driven by the top end of the game but I really think it is important that we try and get Scotland back up the table, up the league of coefficients."

    Scottish Borders Council wrote off debts totalling £627,000 in the last financial year - an increase on the £575,000 which was written off in 2013/14 but less than the £1.02m incurred the year before that., external

    The figure includes £239,900 in Council Tax, £14,500 in non-domestic business rates, £16,000 in overpayments of housing benefits and £357,200 in "sundry debt", much of which relates to unpaid charges for social work services.

    A Dumfries man who admitted being in possession of extreme pornographic images has been told he could face a jail term.

    Euan McKean, 28, of Broomlands Drive, heard guidelines indicated he should be given a prison sentence.

    He committed the offence between April 2013 and January this year. He also admitted downloading indecent images of children during the same period.

    Sheriff George Jamieson deferred sentence to 15 July.

    Police in Edinburgh have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace in connection with a public indecency incident on a bus.

    The incident involving a young woman happened between 20:10 and 21:00 on a Stagecoach bus which travelled from Dumfries to Edinburgh on 20 May.

    Police have issued a bogus caller warning after an incident at about 11am yesterday in Earlston.

    A man called at a house in the area stating that he was there to quote for some work to a tree.

    He was approximately 30 years old, 5ft 8in tall with short black hair and was wearing a high visibility waistcoat and jeans.

    He spoke with an eastern European accent. On being challenged the man immediately left in a white transit van.

    Police in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses following a break-in in Hawick.

    The incident happened around 2.30am today at a residential property in Mill Path.

    The occupants were disturbed and awoke to discover that entry had been forced to their property and various personal items, including jewellery, had been taken.

    Melrose's Lewis Carmichael was yesterday handed a nine-week ban for foul play while playing for Scotland Under 20 in the Junior World Championship match against Ireland.

    Lewis scored tries against Ireland and New Zealand at the event in Italy, but will take no further part in the competition.
