    A gamekeeper has been fined £2,000 after being found guilty of killing a bird of prey.

    William Dick, 25, was convicted at Dumfries Sheriff Court last month of killing a buzzard in April 2014.

    Witnesses said they saw Dick, of Kirkmahoe, Dumfries, throw rocks at the bird and repeatedly stamp on it.

    A spokesman for the Crown Office said one witness described the incident as "sickeningly violent".

    A leading forestry company based in Stirling has been bought out by a national timber group.

    Tilhill Forestry was established in 1948 and grew to become the UK's largest forest management and timber harvesting company.

    It will now operate as a subsidiary of BSW Timber Limited, a Berwickshire-based firm which operates sawmills across the UK and in Latvia.

    The RNLI will withdraw its lifeboat from St Abbs next week, despite receiving a 13,000-signature petition opposing the move.

    The charity's operations director said the closure of the lifeboat station would go ahead as planned.

    George Rawlinson added that a second lifeboat would be stationed at nearby Eyemouth in a move which "meets the requirements for the area".

    Annan Athletic have signed Motherwell defender David Ferguson on loan.

    The 19-year-old is said to be comfortable playing across the back or in midfield and featured for the Motherwell first team before going out on loan to Alloa Athletic at the end of last season.

    He has joined the Galabank outfit until January.

    Hearts have sold Scotland Under-19 striker Gary Oliver to join Queen of the South for an undisclosed fee.

    The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for the Scottish Premiership club in August 2013 and has made 25 appearances for the Edinburgh outfit.

    The BBC show Antiques Road Trip will be in the town from mid-morning to visit Hall's Auction House.

    And they'll also be out and about in local antique shops looking to pick up a bargain or two. Antiques Road Trip was last in Galashiels during April 2014.

    The Borders Railway has yet to have an impact on the housing market along its route, according to new figures from Registers of Scotland (RoS).

    In the last three years, the volume of residential sales within five miles of the new stops has risen.

    However, the increase is less than that in the wider local authority areas of Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.

    House prices have also risen along the route since 2006 but again the council-wide figure has been higher.
