    NHS Borders chief executive Jane Davidson has dismissed reports that the plans for a replacement Roxburgh Street Surgery in Galashiels have been scrapped.

    "The replacement of Roxburgh Street Surgery is linked to the SAS ambulance station which moved from the Roxburgh Street site in 2014 to a new site built at the Borders General Hospital," she said.

    "There is a great deal of anticipation surrounding this project as it will impact over 3,300 patients in the Galashiels area.

    "Basing timescales on the current planning assumptions, construction is planned to begin in May 2016."

    She said a full update would be provided at the NHS Borders board meeting on 1 October.

    South of Scotland Lib Dem MSP Jim Hume has lodged a question with the Scottish government about overcrowding on the Borders Railway.

    He wants to know what discussions it has had and plans to have with ScotRail regarding increasing capacity.

    He has also asked what plans it has to work in conjunction with the operator to tackle the issue.

    Borders para-athletes Libby Clegg and Samantha Kinghorn have been selected for Team GB at next month's para-athletics world championships in Doha.

    Blind sprinter Libby from Newcastleton won gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She competes in the T12 100 and 200 metres.

    Wheelchair racer Sammi from Gordon is in four events - the T53 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres.

    Police are keen to trace Kieran Clarke who has been missing since 1.30pm yesterday.

    He was last seen at the John Niven College, Stranraer. He has not been in contact with anyone since that time.

    He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and tracksuit bottoms. Kieran is 16 years old.

    ScotRail has announced plans to recruit up to 100 new train drivers.

    The rail operator said recruiting trainees at depots across the country would support the expansion of timetables and roll-out of "faster, bigger and greener" trains.

    The roles will be based in Aberdeen, Ayr, Bathgate, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gourock, Helensburgh, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and Tweedbank.

    In last night's East of Scotland football there was a narrow defeat for Duns away to Lothian Thistle - but goals galore - with 5-4 the final score.

    And it was a similar story - with a happier ending - for Peebles Rovers who came away with a 4-4 draw from Heriot Watt University.

    Opening hours at the Bank of Scotland in Jedburgh will be cut later this year.

    The branch currently operates five days a week - but from 7 December will only be open from 10am until 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

    Customers are advised to travel the ten miles to Kelso branch, where five day opening will continue if the Jedburgh hours aren't convenient. A deposit facility at the ATM in Jedburgh is also being withdrawn.

    Local honey producers say this year's harvest is set to be dramatically down on last year after the poor summer weather created difficult conditions for bees.

    The combination of wet and windy weather and cool temperatures at key times of nectar production means bees have collected significantly less to deposit into honeycomb cells.

    In some parts of Scotland, the situation has been described as "disastrous".

    Scotland's chief law officer has asked for "further investigations" into the deaths of three people at a rally in the Borders.

    Frank Mulholland QC said the work will help determine whether a fatal accident inquiry should be held into the incident at the Jim Clark Rally.

    Crown Office lawyers will also rule on bringing criminal proceedings.

    Iain Provan, 64, Elizabeth Allan, 63, and Len Stern, 71, died at a stage of the rally near Coldstream last May.
