A few weeks after the 13 November Paris attacks, Belgian police issued pictures of two men described as "armed and dangerous" and named as Soufiane Kayal (L) and Samir Bouzid.

The men were thought to have been picked up by Abdeslam when he travelled to Hungary last September. If Belgian reports are correct, Bouzid was a false identity used by Mohamed Belkaid, the Algerian gunman shot dead on Tuesday.

    Abdeslam

Salah Abdeslam, 26, is a French national who was born in Brussels and later moved to Molenbeek.

He fled Paris for Belgium hours after the carnage in Paris, which killed 130 people, and has been on the run since.

Salah Abdeslam is the suspected logistical chief behind the Paris attacks, but it is thought he may have decided against detonating his suicide vest at the last minute.

Along with his brother Brahim, who was killed in the attacks, Salah Abdeslam was well known in the suburb of Molenbeek, one of the poorest parts of Brussels and home to a large Muslim community.

He and his brother ran a bar that was shuttered by police over suspected drug dealing two weeks before the 13 November attacks.
