    Simon Mauger and Brian Cammack have won the Jersey Rally for a sixth year.

    The UK-based duo were less than six seconds clear of second-placed Ross Le Noa and Domonic Volante from Jersey.

    "This was definitely the hardest win we've had over in Jersey, it's a massive achievement and we're really pleased that we've got the win," Mauger told BBC Radio Jersey. "We had three or four crews just trailing by seconds the whole way through the rally."

    A manager at the Jersey Women's Refuge has been awarded £33,600 for being unfairly dismissed.

    Jersey's Employment and Discrimination Tribunal found that Samantha Price had been constructively, unfairly dismissed and was entitled to compensation. 

    The tribunal agreed with the claims of Mrs Price that she was the victim of allegations that were false and which were not properly investigated.

    Jersey Women's Refuge has the opportunity to appeal to the Royal Court.

    Jersey international Anthony Hawkins-Kay has been named the island's Cricketer of the Year for 2016.

    The all-rounder took 11 wickets at an average of 17.4 with the ball and scored 187 runs at an average of 46.7 in the island's domestic league and was also part of the Jersey side which won World Cricket League Division Five earlier this summer.

    "I felt I had a good season, so it's always nice to get recognised at the end-of-season awards," Kay told BBC Radio Jersey.

    During her visit to Guernsey over the next couple of days, the French Ambassador to the UK will present a Guernseyman with the Legion d'honneur.

    Mr William Blair is a veteran of the D-Day landings, landing on Normandy on 6 June 1944.

    Three Guernsey Parishes were awarded awards for their flower displays over the weekend.

    St Peters picked up gold in the Britain in Bloom Champion of Champions - the highest award available, while St Peter Port and St Martins won gold and silver in their categories.

    The awards recognise the hard work of volunteers, who have helped transform and enhance their local communities.

    The construction of the RRS Sir David Attenborough begins on Merseyside today.

    In a public vote, the name of Boaty McBoatface - suggested by former BBC Radio Jersey presenter James Hand - actually won the poll, but the UK government decided to overrule the decision and celebrate the life of naturalist Sir David Attenborough instead.

    However, the name Boaty McBoatface will live on, with the a remotely-controlled autonomous submarine taking on the name.

    The Boaty sub-sea vehicle will be dispatched from RRS Sir David Attenborough to allow the ship's research crew to collect data and samples from the deepest waters of the Arctic and Antarctic.

    The scrapping of the 11-plus in Guernsey schools could be overturned or delayed under new plans revealed by the Education Committee.

    Deputy Paul Le Pelley wants a "final decision" on selection, claiming that the turnover in the States following April's general election could change the result. 

    The Committee itself is split, with two members - including its President, Deputy Le Pelley - wanting to retain selection, while the other three members want to see all-ability schools.

    Construction of the UK's new £200m polar research ship, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, formally begins today.

    A ceremony will see a crane lower a near-100-tonne segment of keel on to blocks on the firm's slipway.

    The vessel is already well known after the online vote to name it, with former BBC Radio Jersey presenter James Hands' suggestion of "Boaty McBoatface" winning by a stretch.

    While the government overruled the vote on the main ship, an autonomous yellow submarine will be named Boaty McBoatface in recognition of the public demand.

    Le Riche Cup holders St Paul's were knocked out of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Rozel Rovers.

    Tom Murray's goal inflicted the first defeat in the event since 2013 on St Paul's, who had won the cup every year since 2010 apart from 2013.
