    The States of Guernsey Health and Safety Executive has released the dates that you'll be able to buy fireworks.

    The sale of fireworks will begin on Friday 28 October, and continue until the end of the business day on bonfire night.

    The spokesperson for the National Obesity Forum says Guernsey's schools are partly to blame for their high child obesity levels. 

    Figures released today show, nearly a third of nine and 10 year olds in the island are classed as overweight or obese, which is double the rate for children three years younger.

    Tam Fry - who is also a patron of the Child Growth Foundation - says that diet and a lack of exercise are likely to be the cause...

    The Council of Ministers have formally submitted their plans to build a new hospital.

    The site is the same as the current General Hospital site, but with additional land from Kensington Place and other nearby sites.

    The proposal will be debated by members before the end of the year.

    Jersey Finance has been in London this week, launching new research that found Jersey "facilitates 190bn euros of foreign investment into the EU".

    That's the equivalent of £170bn being pumped into the member States, which it claims supports 88,000 jobs.

    The French Ambassador to the UK has laid a wreath at the Bailiwick War Memorial during a service remembering the Battle of Verdun and the Guernsey residents who died fighting in the French army.

    Madame Sylvie Bermann joined the Lieutenant Governor and the Bailiff to honour the Bailiwick's French residents who fell for their country.

    The Chinese delegation of six teachers visiting the island today were delayed by a couple of hours, as they missed their flight from London.

    Later (now about 13:00) an agreement will be signed by the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture and the Huangpu Education Bureau.

    It'll establish a "Confucius Classroom" in Guernsey which will aim to promote the Chinese culture and language locally.

    I assume this a mash-up of the words "radar" and "dome". Very clever.

    This is the latest stage of the radar replacement project taking place on Jersey's north coast.

    The Radome is 9m wide, 8m high, and weighs about 2.5 tonnes, and will apparently give much better protection to the radar within, especially during bad weather.

    Jersey ratepayers haven't been getting a fair deal from the States according to a St Helier official.

    Until now, the States hasn't paid rates on any public buildings - and Procureur Geraint Jennings says that's just passed the burden on to ratepayers.

    In the latest budget there are plans to change that, meaning St Helier in particular could be hundreds of thousands of pounds better off.

    I think that's a catchy name... maybe I should trademark it.

    There are calls for a dedicated Bailiwick Bank, which the CEO of Finance for Guernsey says would be much better for islanders.

    Geoff Miller was speaking after revealing the results of a study into how hard it is for people to fund mortgages or set up businesses.

    He believes too many lending decisions are made remotely, but says conditions are good to launch a new bank locally.
