    Chris Quevatre
    BBC News Online

Guernsey's harbour master says he's in regular communication with the island's police force regarding any attempts by migrants to come to the Channel Islands.

Captain Chad Murray says Guernsey hosted a visit from Cherbourg authorities last month to discuss potential scenarios.

And he says the role of the coastguard here differs considerably to that of border enforcement.

    Quote Message

The head of Special Branch briefs us regularly to make sure we're aware of any potential vulnerabilities or attempts. There have been attempts by migrants along the Normandy coast, more focused on Jersey, as they're obviously closer. My role as Head of Coastguard would be that in any migrant scenario we would be there for search and rescue. We're not there to protect the borders."

It's been airlifted to Guernsey and is now in the care of the GSPCA.

The pup is currently unnamed, so why not send us your suggestions, and we'll pass them onto the GSPCA.

There's been no confirmation of whether it's male or female, so this is a bit of a challenge...
