    A New York lawyer working in Jersey says Donald Trump has said embarrassing and appalling things - and says many Americans missed the opportunity to vote against him at the election.

    After an election campaign which he says was the most divisive in modern history, he added it "seems surreal that America has elected a former reality TV star as its president".

    While he hopes Mr Trump can unite his country, Mr de Mita added he has a long way to go before many Americans, especially in his home of New York, can accept him.

    Senator Philip Ozouf has formally resigned as an assistant chief minister in the States of Jersey.

    Chief Minister Ian Gorst confirmed he had received a letter from him stepping aside.

    It means Senator Ozouf is no longer a minister or part of the council of ministers.

    Guernsey's ambulances will be using the Green Lanes to access the station due to the latest phase of roadworks in the Rohais.

    From today the resurfacing project means the only access to St John headquarters will be via the Clos Collette Nicolle - a residential clos.

    St John says vehicles will be deployed at standby points outside of the roadworks to ensure its responses to emergencies are not disrupted.

    The St John Shop will remain open for business.

    A man accused of the attempted murder of a 63-year-old man in Journeaux Street in October will go on trial in Jersey's Royal Court in March.

    Gerard Eamon Maguire 49, of Aquila Road, St Helier, but originally from Birmingham, appeared before the court earlier.

    He pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and a second charge of grave and criminal assault and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

    Guernsey Raiders captain Lewis Hillier says the club's recent winning streak has boosted the morale of the side.

    Raiders have won four successive games and five of their last six to move into fifth place in National Three London - their highest-ever position.

    "Once we got one win under the belt I think we started playing with a lot of confidence. We've started playing the style of rugby that we're trying to bring each week," Hillier told BBC Radio Guernsey.

    "It doesn't always turn up each week, but it's confidence and everyone's keen and eager to get out on the pitch and play the best they can."

    The last surviving animal from a group of 10 lemurs which were brought to Jersey from Madagascar in 1990 has died aged 26.

    Alderney manager Alan Adamson says his side's first season in Guernsey's top flight will help them in their Muratti semi-final against champions Jersey.

    They are fifth in Guernsey's Priaulx League and lost 1-0 to Guernsey last season - their best result since 1999.

    The number of female students in Guernsey taking up classes and careers in engineering has reached a stand still, according to a programme manager at the College of Further Education.

    John Semenowicz is calling for more active engagement in the so-called STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and maths.

    He says he's consistently seen a ratio of two female to 12 male students each year, and wants to see an end to gender stereotypes.

    Jersey's rate of inflation has seen a small dip over the past quarter, according to the latest figures from the States Statistics Unit.

    The Retail Price Index, Jersey's main measure of inflation, increased 1.9% when measured in December of last year.

    The inflation rate has slowed a fraction in the last quarter.

    There have been five consecutive quarters of growth in Guernsey's fund industry, based on figures released by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.

    They show at the end of September 2016, the net asset value of all funds under management and administration in Guernsey stood at £249.4bn – an increase of £2.3bn (0.9%) since the end of June.

    Guernsey Finance chief executive Dominic Wheatley said combined with the recent reports that Guernsey continues to be the first choice for non-UK listings on the London Stock Exchange it shows the funds sector is in "promising shape".
