  8. Private register the 'right thing for Guernsey'published at 08:08 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2017

    Chris Quevatre
    BBC News Online

A beneficial ownership register not accessible to "anyone and everyone" is the right thing for Guernsey according to the vice-president of the Policy and Resources Committee.

Politicians will be asked to approve the plans to establish the register - which will hold details of who ultimately owns businesses here.

    Lyndon Trott

Deputy Lyndon Trott says a private register ensures confidentially, but the plans have been criticised by charity Oxfam.

The charity's tax policy expert Oliver Pearce says opening the register up to public scrutiny will allow poorer governments around the world to see which people and businesses pay less tax.
