  9. Women's Muratti cancellation decision to be revisitedpublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2017

    Tim Pryor
    BBC Sport

The Guernsey Football Association has said a "possible solution" to the 2017 women's Muratti will be put forward to local players.

The competition will not be going ahead as it stands, although more than 25 registrations offered to join clubs in Guernsey in a bid to get it back on track.

    Women's Muratti

The GFA has said those registrations will not now go ahead, but adds that it's "revisiting" ways to get the match played within competition rules.

    Quote Message

The position at present remains that the 2017 women’s Muratti will not be played, but the GFA will re-visit this decision subject to a positive response from the player representatives for Ormer Ladies FC in relation to the possible solution that has been put forward by the GFA. It is also important to highlight that the match could only be played with the support of the Jersey FA and the final approval of the Inter-Insular Committee.

  11. Salerie costs caused by 'changes in scope and specification'published at 11:25 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2017

    Chris Quevatre
    BBC News Online

A report into the safety improvements at Salerie Corner has found that the increases in cost and delays were "the symptoms of a project that was not fully defined when it commenced".

The project was criticised after - despite an original estimate of £50,000 - the changes ended up costing the taxpayer £114,000.

The changes were made after concerns were raised over the junction after the death of a cyclist in 2013.

The new road layout sees cyclists and pedestrians given priority over motor vehicles, with the path set back from the main road.

    Salerie Corner

The report says: "The project is a clear example of the risks that arise if changes are made to the scope and specification of a project without allowing sufficient time to understand and incorporate those changes into the project before the delivery phase."

In reponse, the president of the environment committee, Deputy Barry Brehaut, said the original estimate of £50,000 was "the starting point for a complex project that was supplied as part of the planning application".

  14. New equipment 'could see a 20% drop' in fertiliser usepublished at 10:39 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2017

    Chris Quevatre
    BBC News Online

New equipment for Jersey potato farmers could see 20% less fertiliser used on the fields - and cleaner water for the island, according to the States of Jersey

The machinery - being tested today - puts fertiliser next to the seed potato in the rows during planting, instead of scattering it over the whole field, which is the traditional method.

    Jersey Royals

It's part of a package of measures to improve water quality, led by the environment department, working with the Action for Cleaner Water Group.

Mike Renouard, from the Jersey Royal Company says he hopes to reduce the amount of nitrates in Jersey water.

    Quote Message

I'm hoping that by not putting our fertiliser in areas of the field where potatoes aren't growing, that's going to reduce the fertiliser inputs by 10%. We're also hoping that by placing the fertiliser nearer the potato we can reduce it by another 5-8%. So we're looking at a 10-20% decrease in fertiliser use."

  18. No fires, but Jersey fire service 'stretched by calls'published at 09:43 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2017

    Chris Quevatre
    BBC News Online

Jersey fire service was stretched with emergency calls yesterday - but none of them involved fires.

On-call firefighters had to be brought in to help their colleagues who were on duty.

The calls began with a dog which was missing from cliffs on the north coast. The cliff rescue service went to search, using a drone, but couldn't find anything.

    Fire service

At the same time, firefighters went to help a man whose hand had got trapped while he was doing some DIY.

Then there was a call from the police to help with a casualty - followed by a flood at the home of a lady whose boiler had burst.

Crew Commander Terry Noel said the call outs stretched the duty watch, as so many calls came at the same time.
