Guernsey Water are to introduce "sustainable urban drainage systems" as part of a long-term strategy to reduce the risk of sewer flooding and pollution.
The company says the systems will be used when there is "a chance to ease the impact of urban creep and climate change", this is where property extensions and driveways increase the speed of run-off into the sewers during rainfall.
They will drain surface water into the ground rather than sending the run-off water through a pipe to a watercourse or sewer.

A scheme that helps people needing long term care in Jersey is to be reviewed to ensure it is able to pay for itself as the population as a whole gets older over time.

Deputy Richard Renouf, who'll lead the review says he want to look at the viability of the fund and whether islanders will need to pay more into it in the future.

A land, sea and air search is under way for Alderney resident Keith Jones.
The 53-year-old was reported missing at lunchtime having not been seen since 14:00 yesterday.
Police are concerned for his welfare. He is described as white, 5'10" tall, of slim build with a bald head and when he was last seen was wearing blue jeans, a grey sweater and a red and grey anorack.
Channel Islands Air Search and the Alderney lifeboat are currently out looking for him and any information about his whereabouts should be reported to Guernsey Police on 725111.

The 58m (190ft) Ngoni is set to become the largest vessel on Jersey Ships’ Register.
The cutter rigged aluminium sloop is under construction in the Royal Huisman Shipyard in Holland and at 396 gross tonnage she just qualifies under Jersey’s set limit of 399 tonnes.

The registry has seen more transactions completed so far this year than at the same time over the past 10 years.
There are currently more than 1,700 yachts on the full register and more than 700 on the local Small Ships' Register.
All of them fly the Jersey Red Ensign, which features the three leopards and Plantagenet Crown.

Guernsey's aircraft registry 2-REG has announced there are currently 100 aircraft on its register.
The total number of aircraft on the register has doubled within a year, given that there were 50 aircraft on the register in March 2016.
The move of a Boeing 737 from the American register at the end of February saw the milestone hit although overall 176 aircraft have been registered since the registry launched.
2-REG said the plane is owned by a leasing company, which uses the Guernsey aircraft registry regularly as an interim register.

Guernsey Water plans to try to find more natural solutions to deal with sewer flooding and any related pollution during heavy rainfall in the future.
A number of initiatives have been created to reduce the impact over the years including extending drains, building storm tanks underground and predicting the impact of heavy rainfall.
Guernsey Water says it will now focus on finding more sustainable solutions, including find ways to have water run off more naturally.

A former senior Guernsey politician is predicting a "bust up" when it comes to allocating States resources later this year.
States committees are bidding for their slice of the island's capital budget for the next four years. In June politicians will decide how to allocate the £280m budget.
Alistair Langlois believes the debate in June won't be a pretty sight. He said sometimes people get scared when confronted with "big numbers" and will argue strongly for their own department.
He said: "There will be a bust up as they decide what order we build things. Do we build another bit of hospital or a bit of a school."

Plans to borrow £400m to fund Jersey's new £466m hospital will come back to the States of Jersey for approval next month.
The States of Jersey's Treasury Minister, Senator Alan Maclean, says the plan is to have repaid the money and any interest by 2057. He described the plans as "very prudent".
The treasury had hoped to take advantage of low interest rates and use bonds when it first proposed the funding plan. It warned the States any delay would make the project more expensive, but politicians wanted more time to examine the proposal.
The Corporate Services Scrutiny panel is reviewing the plans and has been hearing from ministers on the plans. Last week it heard there were concerns any funding delay could put off companies with the expertise in building hospitals from working in Jersey.

An ambulance station officer failed to follow up an aborted 999 call from a man who was later found dead, a disciplinary hearing has been told .
Groundsman Alan Hamilton, 65, had called the St John Ambulance on Guernsey, but the call was cut off.
Jason Garnham denies failing to send the police or an ambulance to the King George V playing fields.
The hearing was told there is "no suggestion" the alleged failings contributed to Mr Hamilton's death.
Mr Hamilton was found dead at 07:40 the following day in the groundsman's hut at the playing fields.

More than £160,000 has been given to a number of Jersey charities thanks to money raised through the Channel Islands Christmas Lottery, according to the Association of Jersey Charities.
A new rigid inflatable boat for the Sea Cadets as well as salaries for teachers and supplies at Jersey Seasearch are among a number of ways the money will be spent by island charities.

Police have this afternoon confirmed that no further action will be taken after what's believed to be human faeces was found on the door of a shop in St Peter Port.
Officers have been in touch with the owner of the premises in the arcade, but he does not wish to provide a statement.
The force said investigations are ongoing regarding a separate incident where what is thought to be human faeces and discarded toilet paper was found inside the grounds of St Andrew's Church last Wednesday.
Police say there's no evidence to suggest the two incidents are linked.
