A former nursing home in Jersey will be renovated so junior doctors can live there.

Politicians have agreed to use the Limes building in St Helier for hospital staff, until it is turned into housing.

The former nursing home was deemed unfit for use as a nursing home, so residents were moved and it closed last year.

Now politicians have decided to refurbish the building to allow junior doctors to live there.

The Health Minister, Senator Andrew Green, said the current building where many junior doctors stay may be demolished to make room for a new facility for outpatients.

Rather than borrow the £400m what you could do is just pay in and the numbers we've had literally hot off the press are about £4m a year, and that would achieve over the 40 years the same as if you'd taken out the bond."

Deputy John le Fondre , Financial Scrutiny panel, States of Jersey
