  1. Tamba Park blaze: 'It went from a minor, small fire to a full evacuation'published at 15:14 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

    BBC Radio Jersey

Work on the teeth of a giant dinosaur model sparked a fire at an adventure park in Jersey.

Staff at the Tamba Park, St Laurence, were using welding equipment on the model when it caught fire, producing "dangerous" black smoke visible across the island, fire crews said.

Christopher Colin, the operations manager at the park who was there when the fire started, said it was "routine maintenance" on one of the exhibits.

"The sparks set it alight and we very quickly jumped on the fire extinguishers and water, but it just wasn't enough, it went up too quick. Very quickly it went from a minor, small, fire to a full evacuation".

The owner of Tamba Park, Jonathan Ruff, has confirmed sparks made whilst welding the teeth of one of the park's giant dinosaur models started the fire.

He said the initial fire melted the plastic in the dinosaur's mouth, which caused the thick black smoke seen on social media.

The fire then spread to the roof of the glass house, and on to a car and the surrounding area.

A European botanical invader is threatening Guernsey's Bluebell Wood, an environment services officer said.

Senior environment services officer, Jan Dockerill, said the non-native Spanish Bluebell, a hybrid that produces more bulbs and seeds, is out-competing the native English flower.

The department is organising groups of people to remove the species, which is similar to the native Bluebell, but slightly paler, and more upright.

They will out-compete the natural bluebells, and we really want our beautiful English bluebells with their nodding heads and their violet colours. They're scented too - Spanish bluebells just don't smell the same."
