BBC News OnlineA scheme to encourage islanders to invest in electric bikes has spent all of it's £150,000 budget in 10 months.
The Department for Infrastructure wanted to get 500 E-bikes on the road as part of its wider plans to reduce traffic congestion. They were offering islanders grants of £300 towards the cost of a buying one of the bikes.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Eddie Noel, says the project was more successful than he wished it could have been.
He said: We've looked at this area now, we may come back to it but we are going to look at ways to encourage people to use other forms of transport rather than their own motor vehicle."

BBC News OnlineIt could take a while for a new lower 20mph limit to come into force in St Helier after the infrastracture minister said he wanted to hear the reasons for the change from the Parish Roads Committee before making a final decision.
The committee voted to reduce the speed within the St Helier ringroad from 30mph to 20mph this week but it is up to minister Deputy Eddie Noel to make a final call on whether to implement the change.
Other parishes have already reduced the limit to 20mph including St Brelade where it was reduced in St Aubin's Village.
St Brelade Constable Steve Pallet said it could be difficult for St Helier to police the lower limit. He said they had managed in St Brelade but had a much smaller area to police.
St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said residents deserved to be protected from people driving too fast.

BBC Radio GuernseyThe environmental challenges facing British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies will be on the agenda at a meeting in Alderney today of representatives from the various small nations.
Mike Pienkowski, chairman of the UK Overseas Terretories Conservation Forum, said all of the locations faced their own unique environmental challenges including climate change and the impact of Brexit on funding for environmental schemes.
He said: "All the overseas territories have some standing relationships with the European Union. There are standards which have to be met through the European Union and the courts and there is support for that from the EU."

BBC News OnlineJersey's £23m Independent Care Inquiry has been challenged to explain why it is taking so long to produce its report into historical abuse in the islands care system.

The chair of the panel, Frances Oldham QC, said in March that it was looking at extra evidence - and couldn't give a date for when that might be finished.
A lawyer acting for victims says they are frustrated there is no date for the report to be published. Alan Collins says there needs to be a better explanation of the delay or the inquiry risks losing confidence of care leavers.

BBC Radio JerseySecondary school teachers in Jersey are being taught how to address gender and sexual orientation issues in the classroom this week.
UK charity, Educate and Celebrate, has been invited to the island by equality group Liberate and are holding workshops for educators.
The Ofsted accredited course aims to explain what equality and diversity looks like in the classroom and how to address it through the curriculum.

BBC News OnlineA charity in Sark that was given £500 as a goodwill gesture by Avis after it suggested the car free island was a good place for a leisurely drive says it will put the money to good use.
The money is going to the Methodist-run Sark Sanctuary Centre which opened its doors for the first time on Saturday.
Rvd Karen Le Mouton from the centre said once they had finished paying all the bills for the work on the new facility they would work out what to do with the donation.
The community centre, a first of its kind in Sark, was developed over 18-months and will feature a range of functions including a youth room, a place for the islands care assistant to run clinics and wet rooms for disabled and elderly people in the community who struggle with their own bathrooms.

BBC Radio Jersey Political ReporterA new project to increase the number of Jersey cows in Rwanda is providing more jobs as well as better nutrition among poor families according to Jersey Overseas Aid who are sponsoring the project.
The project is working to cross breed Jersey cows with native cattle.
Dr Theogene Rutagwenga from the Ministry of Agriculture in Rwanda says the Jersey cow has revolutionised the dairy industry in the country.

BBC News OnlineNot having cars in Sark "encourages people to talk to each other" according to the woman who runs the recently opened Sark Sanctuary Centre.
The centre was given £500 by the Avis car hire company as a goodwill gesture after it listed car-free Sark as a destination to take your hire car.
Reverend Karen Le Mouton from the centre said: "If you think about when Jersey and Guernsey are snowed in and people can't drive their cars, everybody get out of their cars and have conversations and talk.
"Here you have those conversations all the time, they stop and talk. There is much more of a community welcome. If you pass people you haven't got a large metal box blocking you from talking."

BBC News OnlineThe Jersey Hedgehog Preservation Group has re-launched a campaign to try and encourage people to check hedges before they strim to make sure there are no hedgehogs nesting.

They are putting up posters, sending stickers and handing out flyers to encourage people to be more careful in their gardens this summer.

BBC Radio GuernseyGuernsey patients who need urgent or complex orthopaedic operations are being sent to the UK because of a backlog at the Medical Specialist Group (MSG).
The group is working with Health and Social Care to address the delays until a fourth surgeon starts in June.
MSG Chairman Dr Steve Evans says a number of issues have contributed to the current delays which have resulted in patients having their operations postponed.
Health and Social Care Medical Director, Dr Peter Rabey, says more urgent cases are being sent to the UK for treatment, and, although there's still a lengthy wait, he hopes the fact they're in the system will mean their operation date is brought forward.
Dr Evans says the number of orthopaedic surgeons will increase to four in June, and this should help balance the workload.

BBC News OnlineThe Guernsey-based International Stock Exchange could be set to overtake rivals in Ireland and Luxembourg, as it helps to fund large companies looking to expand globally, that's according to its director.

She said: "When large companies like Netflix announce the intention to possibly list with us that therefore brings with it a lot of attention and it also means investors have a lot more comfort."

The commission was created to help improve the Island’s health and social care services, and will come into force at the end of 2017.
Newly appointed chair of the committee, Glenn Houston, said: "The law requires the appointment of at least one commissioner who is a local service user because it is widely recognised that it is through building on the insight and knowledge of service users that we improve practice."
