    Jersey Reds pair Pierce Phillips and Simon Kerrod have been named in the Championship team of the season.

    Phillips, who plays at lock, has been at the club for three years while nine of the other 11 clubs in the division voted for prop Kerrod.

    The Chair of Jersey's first ever Care Commission is looking for a local Commissioner.

    Applicants need to have experience of local services, either as a user or as a carer for a family member or a friend. 

    The newly appointed Chair Glenn Houston said: "The new commissioners experiences of using care services will be important in helping to ensure that islanders receive the best possible care."

    The fund-raising branch of the RNLI in Jersey says it’s disappointed at a campaign to get islanders to withhold donations in the dispute over the St Helier lifeboat crew.

    The 25-strong crew walked out in protest three weeks ago after their Coxswain Andy Hibbs was dismissed by RNLI management. The RNLI is currently considering his appeal.

    Caryll McFadyen, Honorary Secretary of the RNLI Guild, which raises funds for the charity, said Jersey Action Group’s campaign to get islanders to withhold donations is mis-directed.

    She said: "The RNLI in Jersey also supports the St Catherine’s Lifeboat and the beach lifeguards and not just the St Helier lifeboat station."

    Guernsey cricket boss Ashley Wright has challenged his side to fulfil their potential by gaining promotion from World Cricket League Five in September.

    The islanders host the Netherlands in three matches over the weekend, starting at the King George V Club tonight, with further warm-ups against Scotland and Denmark to come.

    A long awaited report into decades of abuse in Jersey's care system will be published on 3 July according to an inquiry spokesman.

    The £23m inquiry finished formal hearings last year and was originally due to publish its findings at the end of 2016, but this was delayed until March. The inquiry then announced a further delay due to "more evidence" coming forward.

    Yesterday a lawyer representing care leavers called for the inquiry to explain the delays and announce a date. Alan Collins said the inquiry was at risk of losing the confidence of care leavers due to a lack of transparency.

    Guernsey won't be signing a contract with Condor until the ferry company improves its service to the island, according to the president of the economic development committee.

    Guernsey has an ongoing agreement with Condor but no legally binding contract after deciding to hold off last year.

    Deputy Peter Ferbrache says ongoing mechanical problems with the Rapide are disruptive. He wants Condor to add another fast vessel to its fleet.

    Condor have been asked for a comment.

    Newly-appointed Jersey Reds assistant Neil Tunnah says the club's record of readying players for the Premiership influenced his decision to join.

    The 37-year-old Scot took the role in March, replacing Alex Rae, and will predominantly work with the forwards.

    At least four Jersey players are leaving the island to play in the top flight next season.

    John Cook says the issue needs addressing as the summer approaches as those spaces will be needed for beach users.

    He says last weekend 26 vehicles were advertised for sale at Vazon and Cobo. Mr Cook wants to see formal parking restrictions implemented by Environment and Infrastructure before the summer season.

    People living in social housing in Guernsey will be able to have more money in their bank account without risking being kicked out of their homes after a law change.

    The changes from Employment and Social Security set a higher limit on the capital they can own before their tenancy is reviewed.

    The new capital sums policy means someone can have £31,980 if they have a single bedroom property, which is £20,000 more than they could have before.

    President of the Committee for Employment and Social security, Michelle Le Clerc says this is to make sure they only ask a tenant to leave social housing if they're confident they can afford to rent a property in the private sector.

    An inquest into the death of a woman murdered in a St Helier home earlier this month is opening today.

    Ana Rebelo, 51, was found dead in a property on Victoria Street, St Helier, on 4 April.  

    A 58-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains on police bail.  

    The inquest is likely to open and close to allow the body to be returned to Portugal, where she is from. 

    It will then resume after all police investigations and any criminal proceedings have finished.

    A former manager of a diabetes centre has been struck off the nursing register for lying about her qualifications.

    Andrea Kim Ellis, who got the job in 2013, said she had a "masters degree in diabetes" and other qualifications, but could not produce evidence of them.

    A Nursing and Midwifery Council conduct hearing on Wednesday found she had sought to "deceive" to improve her "prospects of gaining employment".

    Ms Ellis now has the right to appeal.

    A campaign group has urged people "not to donate" to the RNLI at the Jersey Boat Show this weekend.

    It's three weeks since the entire lifeboat crew walked out in support of their coxswain, Andy Hibbs, who was dismissed for reasons that still aren't completely clear.

    The Jersey Action Group says it is supporting the St Helier crew and have launched a campaign to persuade people not to donate to the RNLI. The boat show is normally an important fundraising opportunity for the charity.

    The RNLI has announced it has accepted Mr Hibbs' challenge to his dismissal, and will be re-examining his case.
