    BBC Sport

Jersey Reds boss Harvey Biljon was delighted with his side after they earned a bonus point in their 45-14 win at bottom side Rotherham Titans.

The islanders ran in seven tries, with Tom Pincus scoring a hat-trick and Kieran Hardy contributing two, as 10th-placed Jersey moved 17 points clear of the Titans in the Championship table.

"To come to Rotherham and score six tries, I'm pretty happy," Biljon said.

"They were threatening at times, but I'm really chuffed with where we are."

Despite the margin of victory, Biljon said there was still room for improvement as his side prepare for league games against Yorkshire Carnegie, currently seventh, and third-placed Nottingham in the next two weeks.

"We knew we were coming here and it was Rotherham's cup final and we had to have our attitude right," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

"I'm really impressed with the victory, but not the way we controlled the game at times and the way the players delivered what we spoke about through the week."

A spokesman for the animal hospital said it looks like "the cat was aimed at deliberately".

He said: "The bullet travel and shape of bullet would suggest it was a high power gun as the pellet flattened on impact with the bone."

The spokesman said it looks like someone may have been aiming for his chest.

The cat has made a full recovery and is back home with its owners. Police have confirmed they are aware of the incident.

  3. Music service cuts 'came out of the blue'published at 12:33 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2017

    BBC Radio Guernsey

The head of the Guernsey music service says he is "disappointed" its grant from taxpayers could be cut by the education committee.

It says the £680,000 budget could be cut or removed completely if the Policy and Resources Committee imposes further cuts on the department.

Education, Sport and Culture Vice President, Deputy Carl Meerveld, says the committee don't want to cut music funding but it is one of the last bits of discretional spending they have left in their budget that could be cut.

Mervyn Grand from the music service, which also gets £70,000 in funding from parents paying for music lessons, says the proposals came out of the blue.

“It looked like we could be in with a chance at the beginning, but we just didn’t have an answer for the Ferraris today," Priaulx said.

"We had good tyre degradation, but we just didn’t have enough speed. Having said that I’ve had a great race. I really enjoyed my three stints and managed to make some good passes.

"We’ve had a brilliant season: two wins, second at Le Mans and fought to the very end of the championship. I want to say a big thank you to everyone in the team. We have fought all the way from race one and we could not have had a better group of people doing this with us.”

    BBC Sport

Two goals from Ross Allen and an own goal from Niall O'Hagan put the Green Lions 3-0 up at half time.

"I didn't particularly enjoy today, I thought we could have done things a lot better, I thought they were unlucky," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"Yes we could have had a lot of goals, but so could they, we needed to sort our shape out a lot better in the first half and our ball retention and playing forward with the ball was not what it needed to be,"

The win saw Guernsey rise to 15th in Isthmian League Division One South while Shoreham remain bottom of the table.

Guernsey's harbour master says he is confident the island's lifeboat will be able to help with any emergency at sea in Jersey waters.

An agreement between the Channel Islands and France means the services can help each other out with search and rescues when required.

However, Captain Chad Murray says he is concerned about what knock on effect the loss of Jersey's all-weather lifeboat will have going forward.

The RNLI removed their all-weather lifeboat on Friday after a falling out with the St Helier lifeboat crew.

    Ryan Morrison
    BBC News Online

The Commodore of the St Helier Yacht Club says he is concerned about the cover available for boat owners now the island's all-weather lifeboat has been removed.

The RNLI removed the vessel after a dispute concerning the station's coxswain couldn't be resolved.

It could take months for the island to get a full all-weather service again, but Jersey's harbour master says sufficient cover is available from the Guernsey vessel and lifeboats in France.

However, Steve Pearl from the yacht club says the French vessels can only operate for a few hours either side of high tide, and the Guernsey lifeboat is far away.
