    Quote Message

I'm actually a fan of the opt-out clause, with the exception perhaps around some sensitive ethical issues involving the tragic death of children. But I think as adults it's good thing that we opt-out. In one sense it is a gift, by opting in you are making that gift."

Deputy Carolyn Labey said it was "unfair and unclear".

  17. Guernsey wins port award for third year runningpublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2017

    BBC Radio Guernsey

Guernsey has been named the Best UK & British Isles Port of Call for the third year in a row.

The island was chosen as the 2017 winner for its commitment to the cruise sector which has seen visitors increase spending by 16% per head.

The latest survey conducted on behalf of Economic Development found the average cruise visitor spend increased to more than £36 per head in 2017.

However the survey found the overall value of visitors to Guernsey remained roughly the same due to a fall in footfall where "adverse weather conditions" did not allow about 20,000 passengers to disembark.

The survey also shows that the UK is still the main source for cruise visitors to Guernsey and continues to grow, now representing 70% of total disembarking passengers and crew.

So far, 103 ships are scheduled to call in St Peter Port in 2018.
