    Condor Ferries has cancelled its Liberation sailing today - the company says wave heights and wind speeds are above its safe operating limits.

    Flybe flights from Exeter and Birmingham to the Channel Islands have been cancelled.

    Guernsey's buses, which are being diverted inland at the east coast, are seeing minor disruption this morning as a result of waves crashing over sea walls but are expected to return to normal soon.

  4. Section of coast road shut as waves crash over sea wallpublished at 07:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2018

    Emergency services have closed a section of Guernsey's eastern coastal road, diverting traffic inland at the Red Lion and the Longstore as waves crash over the sea wall.

    A flood warning is in place as a 32ft (9.8m) high tide combined with force six to eight winds earlier. The situation will improve this morning as the high tide has passed.

    Drivers travelling along other parts of Guernsey's east coast this morning are still being advised to take extreme care.

    Blanchelande - a private college - was the last of Guernsey schools to confirm it was opening in the past few minutes, meaning all schools in Guernsey are opening today following adverse weather over the past few days.

    Chief Secretary of Education Gus Paterson conditions appear to improving quickly but would encourage parents to take extra care when travelling into school.

    In Alderney a decision will be made very soon as to whether or not to open St Anne's School.

    Guernsey Airport's runway is open and ready to be used from 06:30.

    Head of Aviation Services Ash Nicholas says it is wet and windy, but importantly there is no ice or snow remaining.

    The terminal is open as usual and passengers should check-in as normal.

    All States schools in Guernsey will be open today following three days of closure due to snow and ice.

    Chief Sectretary of Education Gus Paterson said conditions appear to be improving quickly but would encourage parents to take extra care when travelling into school.

    Elizabeth and Ladies College will also be open and Blanchelande is expected to make a final decision this morning.

    Elsewhere, in Alderney a decision will be made at 07:00 as to whether or not to open St Anne's School.

  10. Guernsey Airport expected to open from 06:30 tomorrowpublished at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    The runway at Guernsey Airport is now clear and passengers taking flights tomorrow should "check in on time", the States has said.

    "Provided there is no ice overnight the runway should be serviceable from 06:30," a spokesman said.

    The States said crews would be reporting from 04:00 if further work was needed, but currently believe this will not be necessary.

    "We will provide a further update shortly after 05:30 tomorrow," a spokesman added.

  11. Majority of Guernsey bus routes clearedpublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    Only three bus routes are unable to operate today as they are still not "completely clear", CT Plus has said.

    The company said they hoped to run R61, R62 and R71 from tomorrow morning.

    All other routes are running as normal.

  13. Hospital staff 'slept overnight'published at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    Staff at Jersey's General Hospital slept there overnight, to make sure they could be at work today, the health department has said.

    A spokesman said most clinics ran as normal today, although patients who were unable to travel safely were given the opportunity to cancel and rearrange their appointments.

    Ten staff members stayed on site.

    Appointments at the hospital and medical centres at westmount and overdale are due to go ahead tomorrow as normal.

    A decision on whether or not to close Guernsey's schools will be made this evening or "first thing tomorrow".

    Checks are currently being carried out on States school properties.

    Guernsey Police have warned strong winds combined with high tides could create "hazardous conditions" on the east coast tomorrow.

    In particular officers say debris may be thrown up and strewn across the area between Bulwer Avenue and the Val des Terres.

    "Early flood mitigation measures are advisable," a spokesman added.

    As the darkness falls drivers in Guernsey are being urged to make sure others can see them.

    Traffic and Highway Services said lights and indicators are essential in current conditions, and advised a "10-second walk" around a vehicle to brush snow off the windscreen, windows and lights.
