According to the association 14 one-bed flats, two two-bed houses and six three-bed houses will be provided. It is expected to be completed by July 2019 and will cost about £3.4m.

GHA said the land has been provided at a "discounted price" by the States, which would help the project's finance and keep rent down.

    RGLI dedication ceremony

Sunshine was a rare commodity yesterday, but it chose the right time to come out as not a drop fell during the ceremony.

Approaching the Sunken Gardens the martial sounds coming from the Guernsey Concert Brass set the right tone for the dedication of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry memorial stone.

The peaceful gardens were lit with sunshine burning off the morning's rain to create a colourful and fitting setting for the unveiling.

As the Dean of Guernsey, the Very Reverend Tim Barker, began his address it was accompanied by birdsong as nature in sound and colour complimented the standards, uniforms and medals on display.

Having attended the unveiling of a memorial in Masnieres in June this was another sombre, but fitting tribute. In total during World War One about 8,000 islanders went to war of whom 1,470 never returned.

There was a real sense of the islands - for both men from Sark and Guernsey served in the unit - coming together and this memorial was put in place after fundraising for the Masnieres memorial so exceeded its target this second granite tablet could be created.
