    New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has urged drivers not to try digging their cars out.

    He wants people to leave cars where they are, fearful they will shovel snow from their cars back on to the freshly cleared streets.

    The city has suspended some parking rules to help with this, but the mayor's office said 25 summonses had been issued to people who ignored Saturday's travel ban.

    Saturday’s record-breaking snowfall and the travel ban that followed saw all matinee and evening performances on Broadway cancelled.

    But business on New York's Great White Way will return to normal on Sunday, with both matinees and evening performances given the green light.

    "The show must go on," said Charlotte St Martin, president of the Broadway League. "We don't want to disappoint… the large percentage of our audience who come in from out of town."
