It's churning away, slower and slower - but is still hurricane strength about 12 hours after making landfall (this is unusual).

The National Weather Service has just put out an update, external, saying it's 25 miles (40km) west of Victoria, a small inland city of about 70,000 people.

It is moving at about 2mph and has slowed considerably over recent hours - the fact it is now slowing down is likely to be bad news, as it will dump large amounts of rain while it stalls.

On top of that, there are still winds of about 75mph.

  13. Storm surge still a big riskpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

    Image caption,

The sea claimed this car in Corpus Christi

The latest update from National Hurricane Center makes clear that storm surge is still a problem along parts of the Texas coast.

The NHC said that the sea Port Lavaca (a small city of about 10,000 people between Houston and Corpus Christi) was 6.2ft (1.9m) higher than normal.

Storm surge happens when low pressure at sea "lifts" tides to a level higher than normal and high winds then blow the water inland.

  16. 'Main concern is for Rockport'published at 14:46 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

    James Cook
    BBC News,, Corpus Christi

Harvey was pretty ferocious when it came ashore, with screeching wind all night. We saw a reasonable amount of damage being caused by debris flying through the air.

There's no sign though of any serious structural damage in the immediate vicinity here in Corpus Christi. But the main concern is for the town of Rockport, where the eye of the storm came ashore.

There is concern there about a number of buildings, in particular a shelter for the elderly from where people had apparently not been evacuated.

  17. Morning footage of Galveston coastpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

    Media caption,

    Harvey's heavy winds hit Galveston

We're getting live shots coming in from the coast at Galveston in Texas - it's been hours since Harvey made landfall, but there's no sign of the winds or waves calming.

Galveston, of course, was the site of the deadliest natural disaster in US history, external, when a category four hurricane struck in September 1900, destroying the city and killing as many as 12,000 people.

  18. Huge rainfall hits Victoriapublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

At the moment, Harvey is located near Victoria, north-east of Corpus Christi - a city of about 60,000 people.

Victoria is one of the places that could get up to 40in (one metre) of rain, and while the National Weather Service says reports the city already received about 16in of rain are probably not correct, it's clear from this video that Victoria is getting a lot of rain right now.

  19. "Guardsmen ready for deployment"published at 14:16 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

Francisco Sanchez, a spokesman at Harris County Homeland Security and Emergency Management, has spoken to BBC Newshour from Houston. He said he is communicating with colleagues throughout the area but that it is too early to do a damage assessment.

He said national guardsmen and reservists are positioned throughout the state, ready for deployment where needed.

He also reminded people only call 911 if they have a significant or life-threatening emergency.

  20. Footage from the eye of the hurricanepublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

This footage was filmed on Friday, before Harvey made landfall. It was posted by the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron - the so-called "hurricane hunters" that are an arm of the US Air Force.

(If you watched this and thought it looked alarmingly calm and the sky looked surprisingly blue above, it's because this was filmed in the calm of the eye...it's a lot rougher outside the eye)
