This was meant to be a pure moment of celebration for Kansas City.

Thousands of football fans, including families with children, would have expected a safe environment.

But the Super Bowl, a uniquely American cultural event, has been marred by another one: a mass shooting.

According to law enforcement officials, the shooting appears to be criminally related, not a result of extremism or terrorism.

However as investigations begin, a familiar narrative is emerging as we often see with mass shootings.

Missouri, Kansas City has very lax gun laws where there are no state licensing requirements for the possession of a rifle, shotgun or handgun.

Those who advocate strict gun laws say when you allow guns everywhere, there will be shootings everywhere. And we have seen that in schools, bars, churches, and nightclubs.

The United States has seen 44 mass shootings in the first six weeks of this year, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.

That’s actually the fewest since 2020, though deaths in mass shootings have remained fairly high.
