BBC Pop Up in Tacoma: Deporting dad

BBC Pop Up spent February in Tacoma, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest of the US.

Although it is closer to the Canadian border, the city is involved in the debate over illegal immigration across the Mexican border 1,200 miles to the south.

The vast majority of the 1,500 detainees at the Northwest Detention Center are originally from Mexico. Ramon Mendoza, an undocumented immigrant who led a hunger strike at the facility last year, is one of those facing - and fighting - deportation.

Pop Up's Benjamin Zand spoke to him as well as his wife and three children about being held in a centre which the authorities insist is not a prison.
