Eddy Grant said Gorillaz had "stolen" his song

The manager of virtual band Gorillaz has said he's received no official contact from Eddy Grant after he threatened to sue them.

Last week, the singer issued a statement claiming Damon Albarn's cartoon band had "stolen" his 1977 song Time Warp in their track Stylo.

Chris Morrison, manager of the band, said: "Nobody has officially approached me about any contravention of any copyright.

"When I'm approached I'll deal with it."

In his statement Grant said: "I am outraged that the Gorillaz have infringed the copyright of my song Time Warp, claiming their song Stylo to be an original composition."

EMI Publishing, which represents both acts, said it was "a private matter between Eddy Grant and Gorillaz".

Gorillaz latest album Plastic Beach went to number two in the chart when it was released earlier this month.

The group are currently on a fan-club live tour of the UK.
