Coldplay have announced a stadium tour for May and June 2012.

The band will play five dates, beginning at Coventry's Ricoh Stadium, before moving to London for two shows and finishing off in Sunderland and Manchester.

Tickets go on sale on 18 November with European and North American dates expected to follow shortly.

Coldplay's recently-released fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, hit the top of the charts in the UK and America.

The band admitted trying hypnosis to inspire them while recording the album, after a suggestion from producer Brian Eno but said it had no effect on their music.

Despite lining up a stadium tour, the band also took time out in October to play a small gig in Norwich as part of Radio 1's student tour.

Tour dates announced so far are:

Ricoh Stadium, Coventry - 29 May 2012

Emirates Stadium, London - 1 June

Emirates Stadium, London - 2

Stadium of Light, Sunderland - 7

Etihad Stadium, Manchester - 9
