Lady Gaga has revealed details of her upcoming world tour.

The singer posted an image of the stage plans for The Born This Way Ball on her Twitter account earlier today (7 February).

The set design appears to feature a large castle on the main stage, with walkway platforms which extend into the auditorium.

Lady Gaga said: "I'm so excited. The production team has been working so hard, we can't wait for you to see it!"

The 25-year-old, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, revealed the live shows would take place across 2012 and 2013.

"To give you a bit of insight on the design of my new tour, the central area within the stage will be known as the monster pit," she tweeted.

"The monster pit is general admission only, and little monsters unlock it when they arrive to the arena or stadium."

'Dressed to ball'

The singer also unveiled plans to bring her fans, who she refers to as little monsters, backstage on the tour.

She said: "Entry to the monster pit is reserved for the fans who have arrived first, waited all night, + dressed to 'ball'.

"Every night Haus of Gaga will choose fans from The Monster Pit to come back stage + meet me! These tickets are NOT more expensive."

The singer signed off by saying: "Love you little monsters, have the time of your life."

The tour is named after Lady Gaga's current album Born This Way, which reached number one in the UK last May.

The record featured her singles Judas, Marry The Night, You And I and The Edge of Glory, which all reached the top 20 in the UK singles chart last year.
