Newsbeat has tried to contact Sony, but as yet, have not had a reply.

The 26-year-old's tweet about his record deal came after he had to defend the title of one of his songs on his new mixtape.

James tweeted "The song "follow the leader" from the mixtape is not promoting terrorism, it's a story, a reciting of a Stan Esc letter from a demented fan."

He has also been involved in a number of public Twitter rows, including recently criticising his own promotions team.

In an interview with a Polish TV station, the You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves You singer criticised the number one track, as one he was not "in love" with.

He also said that other male winners from The X Factor, were "puppets". He won the ITV talent competition back in 2012.

James also quit Twitter at one point after being involved in a row with comedian Frankie Boyle on the site, that came days after the singer apologised following accusations of using homophobic lyrics in a rap.
