Scottish album of the Year 2013 shortlist announced

Biffy Clyro's Opposites and Chrvches' The Bones Of What You Believe have been named on the 2013 Scottish album of the year shortlist.

Mogwai and Boards Of Canada are also among the 10 finalists.

The Scottish album of the year prize, similar to Mercury Music Prize, acknowledges "the most outstanding albums" released by Scottish artists in the past 12 months.

The winner of the £20,000 prize will be announced on 19 June.

All the shortlisted albums, which also include BBC Introducing featured band Young Fathers' Tape Two, take home £1,000 for making the final.

Biffy Clyro's UK number one album earned its place on the list after winning a public vote which ran between 26 and 28 May.

The remaining nine releases, including Edywn Collins' Understated, The Pastels' Slow Summits and Steve Mason's Monkey Minds In The Devil's Time, were chosen from a longlist of 20 by a panel of industry experts.

Hector Bizerk's Nobody Seen Nothing and RM Hubbert's Breaks & Bone complete the names still in with chance of picking up the award.

However, Frightened Rabbit's top 10 selling Pedestrian Verse missed out on a place in the final 10.

RM Hubbert took home the award last year for Thirteen Lost & Found.

Previous nominees for the award include Django Django and Twin Atlantic.
