Azealia Banks' Twitter account suspended after Zayn Malik abuse

Rapper Azealia Banks has been suspended from Twitter.

The '212' star has been blocked from the social media platform, following a string of aggressive tweets directed at former One Direction singer, Zayn Malik.

She has been accused of racism and homophobia after referencing Zayn's heritage and using offensive terms.

Following her rant against Zayn, she was dropped from her headline slot at London's Born & Bred festival.

The Metro reported that the Home Office was considering banning Banks from entering the UK.

Her Twitter page, external now shows an 'account suspended' image, revealing the account has been removed by the site.

Banks has a history of public feuds on Twitter and was threatened with legal action by Sarah Palin in April 2016 after suggesting the US politician deserved to be "gang raped".

Newsbeat has contacted Twitter for a statement, but they are yet to reply. The social network has strict guidelines to help prevent abuse.

Twitter's rules state that individuals making violent threats or harassing others are liable to have their accounts "temporarily locked and/or subject to permanent suspension."

"You may not promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease," their rules read.

Banks has previously hit out at Iggy Azalea, T.I., Dominique Young Unique, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Angel Haze, Diplo, Rita Ora, Lily Allen, A$AP Rocky, Lady Gaga, Pharrell, her own management and many more.

In 2014 she took to Twitter to beg Sony Music to buy her out of her record deal with Universal music division, Interscope.

They complied. She released debut album Broke With Expensive Taste on her own label in November 2014.
