Region Profile

The Mid and West Wales region is made up of eight constituencies.

This region elects twelve members, eight directly elected constituency members and four additional members. Geographically it is the largest of Wales' five electoral regions - being larger in area than the other four regions put together. It contains Snowdonia in the north, the west coast of Wales down to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Llanelli, in the south, is the region's largest town with a population of nearly 50,000 people.

The constituencies which make up Mid and West Wales are: Llanelli, Brecon & Radnorshire, Preseli Pembrokeshire, Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, Ceredigion, Montgomeryshire and Dwyfor Meirionnydd. At the 2011 election, Labour had 2 Mid and West Wales regional AMs and Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats had one each.
