England riots: What happened to the rioters in court?

More than 3,000 people were arrested in connection with the riots in towns and cities around England between Saturday 6 and Tuesday 9 August. Latest figures from the Ministry of Justice say 1,715 suspects have now appeared in court - most of them in London.

*Offences: Burglary includes theft, handling stolen goods and attempted burglary/theft. Violence includes robbery, public order offences and obstructing/assaulting police officers. In Croydon, violent offences include one charge of murder.

**Sentences: Most people have been remanded in custody pending another hearing. Some people have been jailed for up to a maximum of eight months, others have been freed on bail to appear in court again at a later date. Other refers to a handful of cases where the outcome is still unknown or where referral orders have been made.
