M9 crash: Lamara Bell death prompts Police Scotland call review

An urgent review into the way Police Scotland handle calls from the public has been ordered by the Scottish government, following the death of a woman who was discovered three days after a crash she was involved in was reported to police.

Lamara Bell, 25, was critically ill when she was found on Wednesday in a crashed car on the M9, next to her dead partner John Yuill, 28. She died on Sunday morning.

The review will focus broadly on all call handling procedures and will be in addition to the ongoing independent inquiry specifically into the M9 incident by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

Scotland correspondent James Shaw reports.
