Covid-19: More tier 4 areas, a new variant and a message of hope

The health secretary has given a message of hope as he delivered the latest coronavirus update from Downing Street.

Matt Hancock urged the public not to "give up" as he announced more areas would head into tier 4 from Boxing Day.

He also revealed the detection of another Covid variant in the UK, linked to travel to South Africa.
