Pamela Galloway: 'Our job was to confuse the German bombers'

Pamela Galloway was born in 1922.

She joined the WAAF just before her 20th birthday and was sent to RAF Harwell in Oxfordshire where she trained as a plotter. The base was used for training bomber crew prior to raids on Germany.

After a short time she joined 80 Wing at RAF Radlett in Hertfordshire. There she became involved in the Battle of the Beams as both the RAF and Luftwaffe tried to confuse enemy aircraft and direct them off target.
