Bosses at East Midlands Airport have reported an increase in passenger numbers over the Easter period.

About 70,000 passengers used the Castle Donington-based airport, an increase of 1.1% from Easter 2010.

An airport spokeswoman said top destinations for travellers were Palma, Alicante, Malaga, Faro and Tenerife.

The airport said about 151,000 people were expected to travel in and out of the airport over Easter, Royal Wedding and May Day bank holidays.

That compares to 124,903 passengers for the same period last year, an increase of 20.89%.
