East Midlands Airport predicts busy Easter period

Bosses at East Midlands Airport estimate the number of people travelling this Easter will increase by more than 1,000 compared with 2011.

Last year, about 70,000 passengers used the Castle Donington-based airport over the Easter period.

This figure is expected to rise to 71,400 this year, which would be the fourth in a row numbers have risen.

Despite some airlines raising concerns about staff shortages at UK borders, the airport said it would on schedule.

Brad Miller, East Midlands Airport's managing director, said: "We checked with our UK Border Agency colleagues and they are absolutely certain there will be no problems for people coming back to East Midlands Airport over the Easter holidays."

An airport spokesperson said the most popular destinations this Easter were Palma in Majorca, Malaga and Alicante in Spain, Dalaman in Turkey and Faro in Portugal.
