Bernard Hill visits Titanic's street of death

Help

Titanic, Southampton Remembers tells the story of the victims of the Titanic on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ill-fated liner.

Actor Bernard Hill who played Captain Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film, discovers the impact the tragedy had on the port of Southampton.

Around 550 victims, well over a third of the total deaths in the disaster, lived in the Southampton port.

The city's streets had numerous victims including men who were husbands, fathers and sons. They were all Titanic crew members who obeyed the "women and children first" command as the famous White Star liner slowly sank in 1912.

Titanic, Southampton Remembers is broadcast on BBC One South on Sunday, 15 April at 16:50 BST and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
